Pokemon Opal?!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well it seems that the fan proclaimed game Pokemon Opal, said to be the third game in the fourth generation of Pokemon, has recieved a few clues pertaining to its possible release.

The first clue is on the website for the 11th Pokemon movie also know as Giratina & the bouquet from the sky - Shaymin. They have revealed a new Giratina form known as the Origin form. They also happened to post its statistics, referring to a possible appearence in a game?

news/reviews.previews Gira-1

The second clue is in an article from Coro-coro magazine where it is written "The origin form isn't in the game. I wonder why!?". If examined properly and compared to Deoxys we can safely assume one of two possibilities.

1. It will only be obtainable in a new game.
2. It will transform from Giratina when traded to a new game.

The third clue would be the fact that Giratina sounds A LOT like the Italian word Giraso, which happens to be a type of Opal. Just like Dialga sounds like Diamond and Palkia sounds like Pearl

The last clue is a little harder to find as it lies within Nintendo's websites the following websites have been registered by Nintendo.

PokemonOpal.com
PokemonAmythest.com
PokemonTopaz.com

Anyways I hope you all enjoyed this article on the possibility of a third game set in the Sinnoh region!

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood Interview
Developer BioWare pulls back the curtain on its epic Sonic-themed DS RPG. First details and 20 screenshots!
by Matt Casamassina
February 15, 2008 - One of the most surprising videogame-related announcements in recent history was that by proven studio BioWare, which revealed last year that it was in development with an epic Sonic the Hedgehog themed RPG for Nintendo's DS handheld. Titled Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, the game journeys back into the franchise's history to deliver an all-new tale complete with classic characters, a deep battle system, fantastic music, and much more. We recently caught up with the game's producer, Mark Darrah, for an update on the ambitious project. You can find our interview along with nearly 20 new screens of the beautiful game in motion below.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

IGN: How big is the team working on Sonic Chronicles and when did development begin?

Mark Darrah Development began in 2006 when BioWare started looking into developing for handheld systems. The actual Sonic project came along later. Currently we've got a decent sized team with over thirty people.

IGN: The Sonic games are traditionally action / platform based. Why bring the Hedgehog into the RPG genre?

Mark Darrah BioWare are big fans of the Sonic IP. One of BioWare's core strengths is developing story driven games, so it was natural to bring Sonic to that genre. Fortunately, the Sonic IP is filled with rich characters and is an excellent series to expand the storyline.

Battles are tun-based with real-time elements. A Sonic RPG developed by BioWare. Sign us up.

IGN: How does the storyline in Sonic Chronicles begin?

Mark Darrah Eggman was defeated some time ago and Sonic has gone out to explore the rest of his world. He has been gone for a while and then gets a call from Tails - Knuckles has been kidnapped! Not only that, the chaos emeralds are disappearing!

IGN: The storyline is made up of two acts. Please explain how this works?

Mark Darrah The first Act takes place mostly in Sonic's World. Sonic and his friends are figuring out what is happening and trying to stop the Master Emerald from being taken. In the Second act, the group must travel to another dimension to stop a new threat to Sonic's World.

IGN: What kinds of locales will gamers recognize from the Sonic series?

Mark Darrah To name a few: Green Hill Zone, Central City, Mystic Ruins and the Blue Ridge Zone

IGN: How is the second act of the game darker? Can you give us some details?

Mark Darrah The second act takes place primarily in another dimension. We are not discussing the story of Act 2 at this time.

IGN: Explain to us how the two screens on DS are being used.

Mark Darrah In exploration, the top screen serves as a mini-map for the current area. In other screens, it is used to display the non interactive parts of the GUI.

IGN: How exactly do you play the game?

Mark Darrah The game will be controlled using the stylus really allowing for a sense of speed that is key to Sonic series.

IGN: Please detail the intricacies of the control system. For example, how do you move Sonic and friends about the environment and interact with objects and characters?

Mark Darrah The game has full stylus controls. In exploration, the stylus is used to guide Sonic around. In other GUI screens, the stylus is used to pick individual components on the GUI to interact with.

Interacting with elements in the environment is done through an icon system. So if you want to talk to an NPC, a speech bubble will appear over the NPC's head. To fly Tails across a chasm, the player will click on a flying icon.

IGN: Is there a layer of interactivity to the turn-based battles? How does it work?

Mark Darrah In Combat we have the added twist of real time elements. These are on screen elements that keep the player engaged by having them click, drag and smash various icons.

IGN: Sonic games are known for blazing speed. How will you present (or sidestep) this in an RPG? As a direct question, are there any loop-de-loop moments?

Mark Darrah There are loop-de-loop moments. The most important thing in Sonic Chronicles is remaining true to Sonic's roots while still exploring new directions. This means evoking a feeling of speed and attitude in the player's interaction with Sonic.

Play as a variety of characters from the Sonic unvierse. The game features beautiful hand-drawn backgrounds.

IGN: Who can you play as in the game?

Mark Darrah There are several playable characters in the game. The ones we are discussing right now are: Sonic, Knuckles, Amy, Tails, Rouge the Bat, Big and more soon to be announced.

IGN: Please give us a few examples of how the different mascots have different attributes?

Mark Darrah The major differences between the characters will be the movement and combat powers that each possesses. Amy has a hammer and can smash things in the environment as well as in combat. Knuckles can climb and glide.

IGN: How many characters can you have in your party? And can they work together? How?

Mark Darrah You can have four characters in the party at once. In combat many different combinations of party members will have different combination attacks that use their special moves together.

IGN: How deep is the character leveling up system? How customizable are your characters?

Mark Darrah You control the combat moves that each character gains and improves. Additionally, you can collect items to equip each player. There are a few other things as well that we aren't talking about right now, but stay tuned for more info coming soon!

IGN: Is Sonic Chronicles entirely a single-player affair or will there be a multiplayer component either wirelessly or by way of Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection?

Mark Darrah We aren't talking about how we will be taking advantage of any wireless capabilities yet.

IGN: There seems to be a lot of beautiful hand-drawn backgrounds in the game. How big of a cartridge will Sonic Chronicles require?

Mark Darrah Big -- though we aren't saying quite yet which cart we're using.

IGN: Do you see The Dark Brotherhood as the beginning of a new Sonic RPG series? In other words, supposing the first is a success, might you make sequels?

Mark Darrah The story is rich enough it could possibly support a series so who knows what may happen but at this point out whole focus is on this new title.

Exclusive Reveal: Guitar Hero DS
IGN and Yahoo team up to break the news on Activision's Guitar Hero to go.
by Craig Harris
March 19, 2008 - More than a year ago, Activision revealed that the company was interested in branching its Guitar Hero franchise onto platforms such as the Nintendo DS. It's been a long wait, but the company has finally revealed exclusively to IGN and Yahoo the Guitar Hero game that will soon hit the dual-screen handheld later this year.

The Nintendo DS version -- Guitar Hero: On Tour -- is in development at Vicarious Visions, the team best known for the Tony Hawk and Spider-Man series on the dual-screen handheld, as well as the Nintendo Wii conversion of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock released late last year. This portable version will feature the same rhythm-based "play to the music" gameplay of the big boys, and will even have its own peripheral to get the job done: Red Octane has developed what it's calling the Guitar Grip to give players the ability to finger chords in similar fashion as the console version's guitar peripheral.

Guitar Hero: On Tour for the Nintendo DS.

The Guitar Grip will plug into the Game Boy Advance slot at the bottom of the Nintendo DS system. Players put their hand through the strap of the Guitar Grip for a firm hold on the system, and then position the system in its vertical book form. The peripheral has a storage area for a specially designed stlyus pick, which is used to strum the guitar strings on the touch-screen. As the notes slide down the screen, players strum the strings while pressing the corresponding fret buttons, all to the rhythm of the song that's being played. According to the video released by Activision, the microphone comes into play during songs -- we're guessing it'll be used as control to activate Guitar Hero's "Star Power" mode to increase the points multiplier.

The game is being produced by Vicarious Visions.

The idea for the peripheral came during the prototyping phase of getting Guitar Hero working on the Nintendo DS. "We began prototyping ideas for Guitar Hero on DS in early 2007," said Karthik Bala, CEO of Vicarious Visions. "We quite frankly didn't know whether it would be possible to bring the core essence of the franchise to handheld and have it actually work. It was 20-something gameplay prototypes that were built, all trying different mechanics and uses of the hardware. Some were pretty cool, others were total disasters!

"At some point, we hit upon the idea of creating a peripheral that would have the fret buttons plugging into the GBA slot of the DS," he recalled. "We ripped apart an old GBA cartridge and did some electronics work on it to rig up a prototype device. As awkward and crude as that prototype was, that's when we knew we were onto something. We figured that attaching a full-size guitar or even a mini-guitar would be too awkward to play on the road, hence the design of the more compact Guitar Grip, which gives you the tactile sense of the fret buttons, with the touch screen depicting the strings of the guitar."

Activision's hasn't released all details regarding Guitar Hero: On Tour, but we do know that the Nintendo DS version will feature similar single player Career Mode progression as the console game. On Tour will contain a line-up of more than 20 licensed songs from bands as Nirvana, OK Go, and No Doubt; Activision will most certainly reveal the full list of bands and songs as we get closer to the game's summer release date. Players will be able to pick from six different guitarists to represent them in-game -- while four guitarists have been in Guitar Hero before, two of the characters have been designed exclusively for the Nintendo DS game. As they get through career mode, they'll unlock venues as well as outfits to deck out their chosen persona.

Along with the single player campaign, Guitar Hero: On Tour will also support multiplayer. The game will feature both co-op as well as competitive two player options using the local wireless functions of the Nintendo DS system. The game's battle mode will feature similar gameplay as the mode created in Guitar Hero III, with power-ups created specifically for Guitar Hero: On Tour. For example, players can activate power-ups that'll send raving fans to the other screen, and the opponent will have to sign autographs on the touchscreen to get rid of them. Or out-of-control pyrotechnics will be set ablaze, and players will have to blow them out using the Nintendo DS microphone.

The DS device has four fret buttons compared to the console's five, but there's still a whole lot of rockin' to be had.

Activision has yet to announce a price-point or a release date, but the company did reveal that it's shooting to ship Guitar Hero: On Tour this summer. While console games have been branded with ESRB's T for Teen rating mostly due to song lyrics, Guitar Hero: On Tour will be rated E10.
